Education

Living on the Isle of Wight we are surrounded by water from coastal and inland walks. The inland walks are also know to flood with water levels raising year on year*.

Our experienced water rescue team members know too well the dangers round inland water and rivers that have swollen during times of flooding, or in every day life, this gives a risk to people near to the inland waters.

A lovely afternoon walk with the family and the pet dog, laughing, playing and running with the dog, turns in to the unthinkable, when suddenly one of the family members falls into the river / lake trying to reach the stick that has been thrown for the dog, or just walking too close to the edge. Despite appearing calm, the river, lakes and inland waters pose significant risks including fast, unpredictable currents, cold water shock, hidden under-surface debris, and steep, slippery banks. Many fatal accidents occur because of these hidden dangers or when people unintentionally fall in

Our experienced water rescue team members know too well the dangers round inland water and rivers that have swollen during times of flooding, or in every day life, this gives a risk to people near to the inland waters. We are now looking to gain funding support to deliver water safety education across the Island, we are doing this in the following ways (for grants funders click HERE to see the data available)

Working closely with local schools, we deliver educational programs tailored for children and young adults. These sessions focus on essential water safety principles, the importance of wearing appropriate safety equipment, and how to respond effectively in an emergency.

We run ongoing campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of rivers and open water. These efforts include community information sessions, distribution of safety literature, and regular social media outreach to share key safety messages with a wider audience.

We regularly perform live rescue demonstrations at public events and community gatherings. These engaging demonstrations showcase real-life rescue methods, proper use of safety equipment, and how to safely assist someone in trouble in the water.
