Inland Lifesaving

Flood Response and Rescue Support

Under the framework and guidance of Surf Life Saving GB they have developed specialist capability to support communities during flooding and local emergencies.

Technical Water Rescue (SLSGB) have a highly trained flood team that works alongside partner agencies and emergency services to coordinate volunteers and provide support where needed through the SLSGB agreements

This may include: Community flood response
Rescue and recovery assistance
First aid support
Local resilience coordination

These teams are supported by volunteers trained in rescue techniques, first aid and safeguarding, enabling rapid assistance when communities need it most.

Building Community Resilience

Inland lifesaving is closely linked to community resilience. Like ours, many Surf Life Saving GB clubs are evolving into local hubs that can support communities during emergencies — helping provide trained people, practical skills and equipment.

This growing capability helps communities prepare for events such as: Flooding
Severe weather
Power outages
Other local emergencies

By investing in training and preparedness, Surf Life Savers help strengthen local resilience long before incidents happen.

Training for Inland Environments

Volunteers receive specialist training to ensure they can operate safely around inland water. Training includes:

  • Flood awareness and water safety
  • Rescue techniques
  • First aid and casualty care
  • Incident management and communication

This ongoing development helps ensure volunteers are ready to support their communities safely and effectively.
